FIRST GENERATION1. Hardy HOOKS(1) was born in 1732.(2) He owned 350 acres on the South side of Great Swamp, near Burnt Swamp in Dobbs County (now Wayne Co.) deeded on 7 Apr 1778 in Dobbs County (now Wayne Co.) by Jacob Bardin. (3) This property was located just northwest of what is now Fremont. He was listed in the Tax List in 1786 in Wayne County. (3) He appeared on the census in 1800 in Wayne County.(3) The household is listed as having 7 "free white males," 5 "free white females," and 15 slaves. (1800 Census, Wayne Co., NC, handwritten page #236) He died in 1801 in NC.(2) "Hardy Hooks, believed to be the first of the Hooks family to settle in Wayne County, lived in what is now the northwestern corner of the county.
